There’s always lots going on in Milwaukee, and April, Earth Month, is no exception. With thanks the the Milwaukee Downtown BID for their inspiration, here are some ideas for Earth Month 2024:

Check out a climate protest. Every Friday at noon this month the group 350MKE holds protests at Chase or Wells Fargo banks to draw attention to their support of fossil fuel infrastructure. Their newsletter has details on these “Fridays for the Future” events.

Clean up a river. Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s annual cleanup is Saturday, April 20th. There are cleanup sites all around Milwaukee and suburbs. It’s best to register by April 18th.

Tour Jones Island water reclamation plant. Another event on Saturday April 20 (10am), this is your chance to see where the Milorganite gets made.

Help the Women Voters fight climate change. Milwaukee County League of Women Voters wants to up their climate game. They are holding two brainstorming sessions, Saturday April 20 at 10am or Sunday April 21 at 1pm. Both are at Summit Place, 6737 W. Washington, room 2212.

Rock the green. Like music? Baby goat yoga? Rock the Green has it all! After your morning activities on Saturday, April 20th, get out and join the Earth Day party at the Harley Davidson Museum.

Hang out with Urban Ecology Center. Urban Ecology Center has dozens of activities this Earth Month, with a special focus on Earth Week, April 20-27. Their calendar lists them all, from bird walks to animal feeding to making your own worm bin.

Clean up on Earth Day itself. Earth Day itself, April 22, is a Monday this year. Celebrate by helping get Milwaukee all cleaned up.

Have a Climate Conversation. The best thing you can do to fight climate change, according to climate scientist and communicator Katharine Hayhoe? Talk about it! Help Citizens’ Climate Lobby reach its goal of having 25,000 climate conversations this Earth Month.
